She stood on the shore, looking out to sea.
Coming from afar, an old warm wind blew across the ocean.
Hinting at escape and excitement, it was generous and kind.
What if? she thought.
What if she caught that breeze and flew away?
She looked over her shoulder – to leave all this behind.
That is what she wanted.
The wind promised renewal, a better life.
But it was merely shifting air, fickle and fleeting.
A ship steamed over the horizon.
It would dock soon.
She turned away toward the port.
Warm wind at her back, she smiled.
Let it blow.
